Been sent new account details for a payment?  Make sure you call and check them first.

Barclays Bank want people to be aware of scammers that pretend to be people or companies that you know and take over their genuine email accounts.

They will send emails from that account but provide different bank details for you to make payment to.  Scammers can even take intercept emails for a person within that company, so it looks like it has been sent by the business owner or director.

Once the scammer receives your money it can be moved in minutes and your bank may not be able to recover it for you.

Fake emails can be difficult to spot so if you get an email or invoice with new payment details always call the sender to check.

When contacting the company or person, use the number you already have for them, not the number on the email or invoice.

Ask the company or person to confirm the new details, sort code and account number, name of the account and new phone number and email address.

Stay Alert.
