Higher earning parents who were fined by HMRC over child benefit errors could now recieve a refund after HMRC agreed to review cases where penalties were issued between April 2013 and March 2016.

An HMRC spokesperson said "Customers do not need to ask for a penalty refund or contact HMRC. We will issue the refunds, where due, over the next six months. If we need more infomation from people we will contact them."
